Obituary in the North Devon Journal of March 13, 1924.
" St. Giles-in-the-Wood.
The funeral of Mrs. Rebecca Hookway has recently taken place in the Parish Chruchyard. Deceased was the widow of Mr. Wm. Brinsmead Hookway and daughter of the late Mr. Robert Vodden, who, for over 40 years, was Churchwarden of this parish. The Vicar (Rev. C. W. Walker) officiated. During the service , a favourite hymn of the deceased, "For ever with the Lord" was sung. The bearers were Messrs. J. Millman, J. Jewell, C. Tanton, R. Page, J. Oatway, and J. Turner. The breastplate (on the coffin) bore the inscription: "Rebecca Hookway; died 22nd Feb., 1924; aged 78 years." The immediate mourners were:- Mr. T. Hookway (son), Miss Eva Hookway (grand-daughter, Burwood), Mr. and Mrs. C. Hookway (son and daughter-in-law, Meeth), Mrs. and Mrs. W. Hookway (son and daughter-in-law, Frithelstock), Mr. C. Hookway, son (London), Anniew Hookway (grand-daughter), Mrs. and Mrs. Walter Hookway (son and daughter-in-law, St. Giles), Willie Hookway, Bessie, Beatie, Carrie, Hilda and Mry (grandchildren). There were also several nieces and nephews. ..."
