William and his family along with his brother, John, were living nextdoor to his parents, Robert & Mary, at the time of the 1881 Canadian Census.

William became a photographer according to a posting on Facebook by Brock June 15, 2011 as follows:
"Thomas Robert Vodden had an older brother, William who was born in Devon. He was a professional photographer and moved west to Manitoba. William had a son Albert who had two sons, George Vodden and John aka Jack. we met George and his wife Ruth in Unity Saskatchewan in 1986. George died several years ago. We are in contact with Ruth in Saskatoon."
