a) DEATH: Margaret L. Harris
Margaret L. Harris, 82, of DeKalb, IL, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Bethany Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 14, 1917, in Malta, she was the daughter of Albert and Rose (Freeman) Vodden. Margaret married Francis J. Harris on June 19, 1937 in DeKalb; he preceded her in death on May 12, 1972. She had been living in DeKalb since 1988, having moved from Malta. Margaret was a member of the Northwest Methodist Church of Malta. She attended Rochelle High School. Margaret was a nurse's aid at St. Mary's Hospital and was the owner and operator of the Bird Cage Restaurant in Malta. Margaret also helped her husband with farming in the Malta area. Survivors include two daughters, Carole (Joel) Bemis of DeKalb and Joan (John) Gorenz of DeKalb; a son, James (Rebecca) Harris of Rockford, 12 grandchildren, David Bemis, Mark (Kathy) Bemis, Shelley (Charlie) Ocker, Carrie Bemis, Scott Bemis, Wendy (Joe) Weishaar, Nick (Naomi) Gorenz, Jeri Gorenz, Brian (Shella)Hammel, Beth (Neil) Scott, Ellen Hammel and Karen (Chris) Bailey, 14 great-grandchildren, and four sisters, Doris (Perry) Gilmore, Joyce (Tim) Morden, Florence ( Sterling) Ryan and Lucille Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis, and three brothers,Everett, Howard and Van. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert L. Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Creston. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the serviceSaturday at the funeral home. Memorials, which will be established ata later date, may be made to the family.
