A Veteran of WWI serving in the British Army, Albert spent time in India & Africa. He contracted malaria and had to take medication for it for the rest of his life. He was decorated. His son, Harold, also spending time in the army (Canada) was the recipient of these medals when Grandpa passed away.

Medical: Also had malaria for which he had to take quinine for the rest of his life.

1) "Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Vodden, of Alberta place, who celebrated their Gold
en Wedding on
Tuesday September 20, had a very pleasant surprise when their son Harold, who
went to Canada in 1930, flew home for the occasion. There was a happygathering a
a re-union with the remainder of the family - the three sons and daughters-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vodden, Mr. and Mrs. Montague Vodden, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Vodden, son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Pratt, each with their children.
Letters and telegrams of congratulations were received from many well-wishers
including members of Penarth Council. Mr. Vodden has served on the committee of
the Penarth Horticultural Show for many years and is also a well-known local
fisherman. The couple were married at St. Jude's Church, Plymouth andcame to
Penarth immediately afterwards where Mr. Vodden took up an appointment with the
Post Office. After 47 years service, he retired during the war." Fromthe local Cardiff
